Apply to Join our Team: Research Associate

We are on an ambitious, life-saving mission to uncover the utility of each and every existing drug in every human disease, with the goal of translating therapies to patients with unmet medical needs.

The Every Cure Team:

Every Cure is a start-up, nonprofit drug development organization on a mission to alleviate suffering for the ~300 million people worldwide battling diseases without FDA-approved treatments by unlocking hidden cures. We are building a first-of-its-kind, AI-powered platform to identify FDA-approved treatments that can be repurposed for untreated diseases. Inspired by our success in repurposing over a dozen drugs for new uses, including one that is saving Dr. David Fajgenbaum’s own life, we are committed to unlocking the full potential of FDA-approved drugs to treat every disease and patient possible.

Our groundbreaking approach revolves around building an open-source database and employing cutting-edge tools to identify drug repurposing opportunities. Since launching at the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative, we have received tremendous media attention and recognition including the 2023 Elevate Prize Foundation Founder’s Award, attracted leaders from across industries, been invited to share about our work at the White House, Aspen Ideas, and a Congressional Caucus Briefing, and demonstrated the life-saving potential of our platform.

Four strategic pillars guide our efforts:

  • Using an AI engine to identify promising drug repurposing opportunities.
  • Prioritizing high-impact opportunities which affect neglected patient communities.
  • Efficiently validating promising opportunities through laboratory and clinical studies.
  • Ensuring everyone has equitable access to new cures.

As a nonprofit organization, we are able to focus on maximizing patient impact and saving lives without needing to consider the commercial viability of drugs, including the 80% that are already generic and completely neglected. Our team, comprising experts in drug discovery, data analysis, and clinical trials, collaborates with entities ranging from philanthropic organizations to biopharmaceutical industries including Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Flagship Pioneering, Clinton Global Initiative, Elevate Prize Foundation, and Lyda Hill Philanthropies, among others.

The Every Cure team is expanding rapidly and seeking top-notch, purpose-driven professionals to perform a range of tasks to save lives with hidden cures. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly motivated, patient-focused team based in Philadelphia, PA and New York City that works closely with international collaborators, government agencies, academic researchers, philanthropic organizations, and biopharmaceutical companies to make a significant impact on patients with major unmet medical needs.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Research Associate to join the Long COVID team at Every Cure. Long COVID is a debilitating condition in need of therapeutic approaches. Unfortunately, there are several critical challenges in the way of identifying treatments for Long COVID, such as poor understanding of the underlying mechanisms, unclear biomarkers, heterogeneous symptoms and natural history, and limited-quality data generated to date. While many challenges exist, the debilitating impact of Long COVID symptoms and its relatively new emergence make it ideally suited for therapeutic discovery through Every Cure’s AI-powered approach.

You will need to:

  • Identify and analyse published papers and other data sources related to Long COVID (e.g., medical records, claims databases, patient and physician surveys)
  • Drive insights from this data (with the support of data engineers, data scientists, and medical SMEs), such as disease definition, analysis prioritization, alternative approaches to knowledge graph interrogation
  • Support data engineers and data scientists to interpret clinical and biological problems as analytics or machine learning problems
  • Act as a link between data scientists, data engineers and medical SMEs to translate concepts into easy-to-understand, actionable next steps for each party
  • Performing manual and automated data curation, including assessing quality and use cases for specific data sets, and cleaning data as needed
  • Collaborate and learn as part of a new team, including sharing and receiving 360 feedback, and developing your expertise in the areas that most energize you

You should have:

  • Experience of literature reviews, data integration or other data curation
  • Academic experience (PhD, masters or undergrad) in a related field, such as the clinical, medical, biological or chemical fields
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with data analyst techniques and tools
  • Understanding of basic medical and biological terminology
  • Ability to collaborate across a team with diverse skill sets and prior experience, including clear communication of your priorities and insights

It would be nice but not essential if you have:

  • Familiarity with virology, immunology, and drug repurposing (either industry or academic)
  • Familiarity with SQL and Python

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly motivated, patient-focused team that works closely with international collaborators to make and publish novel discoveries that will have a significant impact on patients who have Long COVID. Every Cure is a fast-growing organization, with the opportunity for high performers to grow and shape their role as the organization grows, including beyond the Long Covid team.
