The Every Cure Team:

Every Cure is a start-up, nonprofit drug development organization on a mission to alleviate suffering for the ~300 million people worldwide battling diseases without FDA-approved treatments by unlocking hidden cures. We are building a first-of-its-kind, AI-powered platform to identify FDA-approved treatments that can be repurposed for untreated diseases. Inspired by our success in repurposing over a dozen drugs for new uses, including one that is saving Dr. David Fajgenbaum’s own life, we are committed to unlocking the full potential of FDA-approved drugs to treat every disease and patient possible.

Our groundbreaking approach revolves around building an open-source database and employing cutting-edge tools to identify drug repurposing opportunities. Since launching at the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative, we have received tremendous media attention and recognition including the 2023 Elevate Prize Foundation Founder’s Award, attracted leaders from across industries, been invited to share about our work at the White House, Aspen Ideas, and a Congressional Caucus Briefing, and demonstrated the life-saving potential of our platform.

Four strategic pillars guide our efforts:

  • Using an AI engine to identify promising drug repurposing opportunities.
  • Prioritizing high-impact opportunities which affect neglected patient communities.
  • Efficiently validating promising opportunities through laboratory and clinical studies.
  • Ensuring everyone has equitable access to new cures.

As a nonprofit organization, we are able to focus on maximizing patient impact and saving lives without needing to consider the commercial viability of drugs, including the 80% that are already generic and completely neglected. Our team, comprising experts in drug discovery, data analysis, and clinical trials, collaborates with entities ranging from philanthropic organizations to biopharmaceutical industries including Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Flagship Pioneering, Clinton Global Initiative, Elevate Prize Foundation, and Lyda Hill Philanthropies, among others.

The Every Cure team is expanding rapidly and seeking top-notch, purpose-driven professionals to perform a range of tasks to save lives with hidden cures. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly motivated, patient-focused team based in Philadelphia, PA and New York City that works closely with international collaborators, government agencies, academic researchers, philanthropic organizations, and biopharmaceutical companies to make a significant impact on patients with major unmet medical needs.

The DS collaborates with other data scientists, clinical scientists and business leadership to execute the right technical solution for a given problem. Every Cure is a growing company, and as we scale, there will be opportunities for high performers to shape their own role.

You will need to:

  • Learn from and work alongside other data scientists, clinical scientists and business leaders to understand the research question at hand
  • Design, create, test and implement complex models and algorithms to support research questions, with guidance from senior data scientists
  • Tailor models to optimize performance while ensuring outcomes are relevant to the biological context
  • Adhere to development best practices (e.g., reusability, consistency)
  • Support senior data scientists in communicating the design, function, performance and output of the analytical models/solutions developed
  • Collaborate and learn as part of a growing team of experienced data scientists, including developing your expertise in areas you are most interested in, growing your soft skills, and giving transparent feedback across the organization

You should have:

  • Experience in machine learning, including deep learning and foundation models
  • Experience working with large datasets and relational databases, possibly including knowledge graphs, and experience working with graph algorithms such as knowledge graph embeddings and graph neural networks
  • Proficiency in Python including common relevant opensource toolkits like rdki, scikit-learn, LightGBM, PyTorch
  • Experience adhering to best-practice coding standards (e.g., documentation, effective resources use etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently learn and solve problems in new domains

It would be nice but not essential if you have:

  • Actual experience in working with knowledge graphs including graph languages like Cypher, graph engines such as Neo4J or Neptune
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments like start-ups (e.g., willingness to take up multiple roles, high degree of autonomy)
  • Professional or academic experience specifically in biology / chemistry /drug discovery or repurposing space

Location

Our headquarters are based in Philadelphia, PA, and New York, NY with offices in London.  This role will be based in London.

Salary and benefits:

50 – 110k GBP depending on experience, plus benefits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics and 3+ years experience in a relevant field, OR:
  • Graduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics and 0-3 years experience in a relevant field
