Shazdeh Omari

MA

Shazdeh Omari joined Every Cure as its Director of Institutional Philanthropy in September 2025. She previously served as the executive director of development at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and the deputy director of development at the Committee to Protect Journalists, a press freedom and journalism organization where she spent more than a decade including as an editor. She has also previously worked at The Village Voice and for Women Under Siege, a journalism project run by the Women’s Media Center that reported on violence against women in conflict zones. Across her career, Shazdeh has raised millions of dollars in support of journalism and press freedom.

Shazdeh got her master’s in English-TESOL and a dual bachelor’s in journalism and sociology at universities in Connecticut. In 2022, she was named to the Emerging Leaders Council by the Institute for Nonprofit News. She was born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, and now lives in New York City with her husband and young daughter, the loves of her life.
