Richard Murray

MD

Dr. Richard Murray is a Pulmonologist, with a career spanning academic medicine, pharmaceutical development and commercialization, device development and Remote Patient Monitoring. He was an asthma researcher at Penn where he was co-director of the Adult Asthma Program. He subsequently joined Merck and stayed for 24 years in positions of increasing responsibility in Medical and Scientific Affairs and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. He served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Merck and then went on to build and lead Merck’s patient affairs organization before leaving Merck in 2017 as Deputy Chief Patient Officer.

Dr. Murray was a 2018 Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow at Harvard, and then became Board Chair of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. He served as the Chief Medical Officer at Spire Health (Remote Patient Monitoring of respiratory patients). He was VP of Medical Affairs at the Medicines Company during 2019-2020 focusing on inclisiran launch-readiness. Most recently he was Senior VP of Medical Affairs at Perspectum in Oxford, with a focus on non-invasive assessment of liver disease.

Dr. Murray is known for building strong teams with external engagement, scientific credibility, patient focus and collaboration across Professional Societies and Patient Organizations. He received his A.B and M.A. degrees from Clark University in Worcester, MA. After graduating from Howard University College of Medicine, Dr. Murray trained in internal medicine and was Chief Medical Resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care at Penn and joined the faculty as an asthma basic science researcher.
