Dear Every Cure community,

We’re excited to share that Every Cure recently launched three new drug repurposing programs to help patients with devastating diseases that have few treatment options. One of those programs focuses on a rare mitochondrial disease primarily affecting children and young adults and has no FDA-approved therapies. It’s one of many diseases where we believe drug repurposing has the potential to make a meaningful difference.

With these three new programs, we’re now advancing 12 active drug repurposing programs across rare and more common diseases with significant unmet need. Every program represents an opportunity to bring new hope to patients and families waiting for better treatment options, and we’re working every day to turn that hope into impact.

Beyond our continued efforts to identify more repurposed treatments and advance our growing portfolio of active programs, Every Cure recently responded to the FDA’s Request for Information on drug repurposing, received a grant from the OpenAI Foundation’s People-First AI Fund, expanded our partnership with The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative/Biohub, and launched a new collaboration with Angels for Change to strengthen patient access to repurposed medicines. In the stories below, we share more about each of these collaborations and how, together, they are helping us turn the promise of drug repurposing into impact for patients.

Every Cure Responds to FDA Request for Information on Drug Repurposing

The FDA recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) on drug repurposing for unmet medical needs, signaling growing momentum in the field and inviting input from patients, clinicians, researchers, industry, and advocacy organizations. Every Cure was proud to contribute our perspective, informed by years of experience identifying and advancing promising new uses for existing medicines.

In our response, we offered recommendations on how to define unmet need and prioritize disease areas, highlighted promising repurposing opportunities, described our AI-driven approach, and outlined barriers to bringing repurposed treatments to patients along with potential solutions. We are encouraged to see the FDA taking a leadership role in this conversation and believe that continued collaboration can help unlock the full potential of existing medicines.

Every Cure Receives Grant from OpenAI Foundation’s People-First AI Fund

We’re thrilled to share that Every Cure has received a grant from the OpenAI Foundation’s People-First AI Fund. This grant will enable us to build upon and expand our AI platform and scale our review of promising repurposed treatments to get them to patients faster than ever before. This is a pivotal moment in our mission to save and improve lives.

Repurposing existing drugs is one of the fastest, most cost-efficient ways to get treatments to the people who need them. With our AI platform, we can surface the most promising drug-disease matches and partner with clinicians, scientists, and patients to bring new treatment options to patients with unmet medical needs.

Expanding our Partnership with Biohub to Advance Drug Repurposing

We’re incredibly grateful to share that Every Cure is partnering with The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative/Biohub for the second time. This expanded collaboration will connect select patient-led rare disease organizations to AI-identified drug repurposing opportunities and support their translation into patient-centered research programs. Together, we hope to accelerate the translation of these discoveries into real world impact for people living with rare diseases.

This partnership represents the next chapter in a long-standing collaboration between CZI and Every Cure’s co-founder, David Fajgenbaum. From supporting the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network and creating the ROADMAP project to helping launch Every Cure’s AI platform, Biohub has been a valued partner for almost a decade on our shared mission of ensuring promising discoveries translate into real patient impact.

New Collaboration Aims to Expand Patient Access to Repurposed Medicines

Every Cure and Angels for Change, a nonprofit dedicated to ending drug shortages through advocacy, awareness, and a more resilient supply chain, are teaming up to help ensure patients have access to repurposed medicines when they need them. While Every Cure works to identify and advance new uses for existing drugs, Angels for Change works to ensure those medicines remain available to patients. Together, we hope to strengthen access to essential therapies, particularly generic medicines that form the backbone of health care.

This collaboration reflects a shared belief that discovery alone is not enough. Patients benefit only when promising treatments can also be reliably accessed. By combining expertise in drug repurposing and supply chain resilience, Every Cure and Angels for Change will collaborate on sharing expertise and amplifying awareness around the importance of ensuring the discovery, evidence generation, and availability of essential medicines. Together, we’re working toward a future where patients are not limited by either a lack of treatment options or a lack of access to the medicines they need.
